James Ray "Jim" Oberlander

A Funeral Service for Jim was held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva, Nebraska. Pastor Andrew Carter & Pastor Josh Hillmann will preside over the Funeral Service. Cherie Domeier accompanied the congregation in the singing of "In Christ Alone," "Jesus Still Lead On," "Be Still My Soul," and "Rock Of Ages." Pallbearers for the service included Ardean Nunnenkamp, Lyle Nunnenkamp, Brett Freese, Jim Baumann, Jerry Otte, and Josh Danell. A Graveside Service was held in the Grafton Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Service. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church. James (Jim) Ray Oberlander was born on February 26, 1954 in Lincoln, NE to Ray Oberlander and Faye (Kleinschmidt) Oberlander. He passed away on September 15, 2024 at his home in Grafton, NE. James grew up on the family farm in Las Animas, CO. He graduated from Las Animas High School in 1972. He attended and graduated from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering. James immediately started working for The Superior Oil Company in Conroe, TX, Cortez, CO, and Harbor City, CA from 1976 through 1986. After leaving the oil company, he returned to the farm in Las Animas for one and a half years to help his father before moving to Nebraska to help his uncle with farming operations. He continued farming the acreage that his uncle had farmed until his retirement in 2019. James is survived by his older brother Gary (Linn Gunsberg), and nephews Stephen, Patrick, and niece Lisa Reynolds and by his younger brother Randy (Karen), and nephews Ryan, Eric, and Shane. He is also survived by numerous cousins and families. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Faye Oberlander and grandparents Sam and Minnie Oberlander and Henry and Greeta Kleinschmidt. He is also preceded in death by 3 aunts and 4 uncles on the Oberlander side of the family and 3 aunts and 3 uncles on the Kleinschmidt side of the family. James was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton. All memorial gifts can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton, NE. He and his family were very grateful and appreciative for the care, compassion, and kindness he received from the Tabitha Hospice Care nurses and aides. All Praise, Honor, and Glory to our Father in heaven; to his Son who died for the forgiveness of all sins who believe in Him; and to the Holy Spirit who keeps faith in our hearts.
