Betty Marie Papik

Betty Papik was born on July 23rd, 1927 on a farm southwest of Cordova, NE to Marker and Rena Thomsen Due. She attended country school in Saline County and graduated from Exeter High School in 1945. She lived in Lincoln while working at Russell Stover’s Candies from 1945-1946. She married Ervin Papik on August 31, 1946. To this union were born six children, Carolyn, Jeanette, Sherrill, Dennis, Danny and Douglas. Betty and Ervin lived in Fillmore County where they farmed and raised their family. In 1975 they moved to Cordova, but continued to farm until 1991. After this Betty worked at Caseys and later at Pioneer Seed Company. Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cordova and enjoyed being a member of the Cordova American Legion Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed fishing, and although she did not hunt, she spent many fun filled hours on hunting excursions with Ervin, her sons and grandsons. Betty was an avid shopper and when she was unable to travel on her own she became a catalogue shopper. Thank goodness she never mastered the art of internet shopping!! Betty had many close friends and spent many hours talking on the phone with her friends and family. Her regular phone calls will be missed by many. Betty had a great love for her family and seldom missed any of their activities. She enjoyed family gatherings, and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a fan and supporter of the Nebraska and Doane football teams for many years. More recently she became an enthusiastic Exeter-Milligan football fan and rarely missed a game. In recent years she became an international traveler, attending granddaughters’ weddings in Mexico and Jamaica and also visited a grandson in New York City. Survivors include children and spouses, Carolyn and Jim Geiger, Sherrill and Tim Murphy, Danny and Valerie Papik and Douglas and Melanie Papik, son-in-law, David Hill, grandchildren Scott Pearson, Jennifer Angland, Jessica Rold, Greg Geiger, Stephanie McKenna, Joshua Murphy, Derek Rold, Lindsay Murphy, Logan Papik and Blake, Spencer, Jaiden and Kierra Papik, great-grandchildren Hannah, Clayton and Celia Angland, Brayden, Nicholas, Jackson and Grace Geiger, Connor and Jordyn Papik, Hazel Rold and Lavery McKenna. Betty is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Katherine Due, Dale and Dorothy Due, half-sister Mary Fleharty, sister-in-law Joy Nickel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elvin and Gloria Papik, brother-in-law, Lumir Papik and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Ervin, son Dennis Ervin, daughter Jeanette Hill, parents Mark and Rena Due, sister Jeanette Due, sister-in-law Jane Due, step-mother Ruth Kaar and step-brother Fredric Nickel. Services for Betty will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska. Burial will follow in the Zastrow Cemetery. Visitation for Betty will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter, Nebraska.
