Darlene S. Houser

A Funeral Service for Darlene was held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, Nebraska with Pastor Stuart Sell presiding. Organist, Janice Fintel, accompanied the congregation as they sang, “Borning Cry” and “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me”. A special recorded selection, “Jealous Of The Angels” by Donna Taggert, was played during the funeral service as well. Casket Bearers included Ryan Houser, Erick Houser, Mitchell Houser, Patrick Houser, Cody Houser and Dalton Holtzen. Honorary Casket Bearers were Shellie Houser, Jesse Houser, Nicole Schoenrock, Whitney Garwood and Darlene’s 13 Great-Grandchildren. Graveside Services were conducted following the funeral service at the Bruning Public Cemetery in Bruning, Nebraska. Memorials were directed to Bruning Public Cemetery or Bruning Fire & Rescue. Farmer & Son Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Darlene Stella Houser, daughter of Emil Bedlan and Stella (Kucera) Bedlan, was born on June 24, 1929, near Bruning, NE. She passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 8 days. She was the youngest of four sisters. She was baptized September 28, 1929, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan, NE, by Reverend A. Biskup. She was later confirmed in 1950 at the American Lutheran Church in Alexandria by Reverend O. Reeg. Darlene and her husband Jack later became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning. After graduation from Alexandria High School in 1947, she received her teaching certificate and taught country school. On August 8, 1948, Darlene married Jack Houser. To them three sons were born: Jim, Tom and Mike. They farmed in the Hebron and Bruning areas until 1963 when they purchased the Locker Plant in Bruning. They retired from the Locker business on May 5, 1990. Darlene then took up the babysitting business, which she and Jack enjoyed for several years. She also enjoyed reading and sometimes helped at the Library. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Jim and sisters and brother in laws Erma and Emmitt Polage, Mildred and Henry Hasselbring and Harry Hasselbring. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Cheryl Houser, Mike and Lynne Houser and daughter-in-law Mary Houser, all of Bruning, sister Everna Hasselbring of Auburn, NE, grandchildren Ryan Houser and wife Kristine of Bruning, Shellie Houser of Bruning, Nicole Schoenrock and husband Spencer of Bruning, Jesse Houser of Bruning, Patrick Houser of Geneva, Erick Houser and wife Jamie of Bruning, Cody Houser and special friend Logan Rosenquist of Shickley and Mitchell Houser of Hastings, and by great grandchildren Damian Houser-Theye, Shakira Sunday, Shawn Sunday, Jamie Houser, Katelynn Houser, Alexa Houser, Tyler Houser, Colten Houser, Savannah Houser, Addison Schoenrock, Letrell Houser, Traevon Houser, and Jackson Houser, and two special grandchildren who called her Grandma, Dalton Holtzen and Whitney Garwood.
