Dennis Hinton

A Memorial Service for Dennis will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Nebraska with Kim Dunker presiding. No visitation will be held as cremation has taken place. Memorials are to directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Private Family Committal of Ashes will be held at a later date. Dennis Hinton was born to Alta Egan on June 4, 1943, in Alliance, Nebraska, and passed away August 7, 2025, at his home in Exeter, Nebraska, at the age of 82. He was one of 5 children in the family. He went to grade school and completed the 8th grade. He began his working career at an early age, working and living at a ranch as a ranch hand and cowboy. In 1980, he moved to Oklahoma. From there, he relocated to Gordon and then Minatare, where he worked for 14 years at a feedlot. His next move was to Colorado, where he remained until 2010. He then bought a house in Exeter, Nebraska, and lived there until his passing. His dog, Bear, meant the world to him, and he was heartbroken when he passed away in 2012. Dennis was married to Charlene Rose Howard of Gering, Nebraska, on August 21, 1964, and to them 7 children were born. Some of the things Dennis enjoyed doing throughout his life included bareback riding when he was a young man, he loved branding cattle during branding season, he cared for and nurtured a garden year in and year out, and loved to take care of the flowers and mow the yard. Dennis enjoyed fishing anywhere he could, and during his downtime, he would turn on the TV and watch the cowboy channel. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; his mother, Alta Egan; his twin brother; brother, Jerry Hinton; grandson, Jordon Burklund, and his grandparents. He is survived by his children, Dennis (Susie) Hinton of Evanston, Wyoming; Pam Hinton of Exeter, Nebraska; Sherri (Jim) Burklund of Geneva, Nebraska; Deb Salmon (Dave) of Geneva, Nebraska; Sheila Hinton (Allen) of Geneva, Nebraska; Denise (Ethan) Williams of Derby, Kansas; Ryan Hinton of York, Nebraska; sisters, Connie (Ed) Starke of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Teresa (Harold) Johnson of Hyannis, Nebraska; brother, Tom Egan of Ashby, Nebraska and a good friend, Tom. His grandchildren also survive him, Chris Malone of Omaha, Nebraska; Scott Burklund of Geneva, Nebraska; Tiffany (Brint) Lemke of Lincoln, Nebraska; Charman Burklund of Geneva, Nebraska; Brandon Burklund of Geneva, Nebraska; Tyler (Courtney) Salmon of Fairmont, Nebraska; Jesse (Lindsay) Salmon of Geneva, Nebraska; Andrew (Lori) Saatman of Geneva, Nebraska; Samantha (Scott) Schade of York, Nebraska; Monica (Bryan) Crabtree of Geneva, Nebraska; Austin Hinton of Bedford, Indiana; Abigail Williams of Derby, Kansas; Brett Hinton of York, Nebraska; Tre (Halee) Hinton of York, Nebraska; Lexi (Kaleb) Bretthauer of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Adrianna Welsh of Gering, Nebraska; Ryann Garcia of Colorado and 17 great grandchildren. The family of Dennis would like to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses who cared for him throughout his illness: Heather, Jennifer, and Shyna.
