Evelyn B. Good

It was Evelyn wishes to be cremated. The family of Evelyn will conduct their own Memorial Service at a later date and time at her home church, First Mennonite Church, in Urbana, Illinois. Memorials are to be directed to the First Mennonite Church. Evelyn Litwiller Good was born on a farm near Hopedale, Illinois on September 5, 1926. She passed away on September 2, 2023 at the age of 96 in Geneva, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Christian C. Litwiller and Emma Zehr Litwiller. She was the second of nine children in the family. She married Willard Good, Rantoul, Illinois on June 15, 1947. They were married 53 years. They were the parents of Shirley Kempf (Donald) of Shickley, Nebraska and Sherrill Berkey, deceased. There are 7 grandchildren, Joel, Jeremy, and Jonathan Kempf and Israel, Christy (Pickerill), Joseph and Daniel Berkey. There are also 15 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, daughter, Sherrill Berkey and 5 siblings, Delora Birkey, Floyd Litwiller, Carolyn Welch, Beverly Burmeister and Linda Litwiller. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Kempf, her sisters LaVerne Petersen, Ruth Mark, and Judith Muzzy, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Together with Willard, she served 3 years in Puerto Rico with Mennonite Central Committee from 1947 through 1950. While there, she assisted in the women's needlework project which eventually became Self Help, and now is called Ten Thousand Villages. She graduated from Hopedale High School in 1944, attended Goshen College 1945 and 1946 and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1982. Her work experiences included cooking for many years in Rantoul City Schools cafeterias. Later, she worked for the Department of Children and family Services and at the University of Illinois Admissions Processing Office. In her latter years, she enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy, keeping up with the Illini football and basketball teams, and writing notes to all of her many friends and relatives. She was a member of First Mennonite Church of Urbana, Illinois, for 42 years where she served in many capacities. She leaves many friends and relatives that were a treasured part of her life.
