Mary C. Tesar

Mary Catherine Tesar was born on August 10, 1942 in Sutton, Nebraska to Ernest & Rosalie (Joyce) Kamler at the Sutton hospital. She passed away on December 1, 2022 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 22 days. She was the oldest of 3 daughters. Mary grew up on the farm northwest of Shickley. She enjoyed working outside helping her dad farm, and she often told stories of riding Shetland ponies and occasionally having to jump off for safety reasons. She had many fond memories growing up with family & friends at Turkey Creek. She was also a great cook and well known for her chocolate chip cookies. Mary attended Shickley Public School and graduated with the class of 1959. On August 20, 1963 she married Donald Lauenstein. They had one son, Tony. Don passed away November 17, 1982. Mary worked a variety of jobs including the Fillmore County Assessor’s Office. Mary was an avid bowler and had many trophies to show. On January 22, 1991, Mary & Norman “Hoot” Tesar were married. After retiring Mary & Hoot enjoyed traveling to area casinos, the horseraces and just cruising around visiting with family & friends. She also enjoyed attending all of her grandsons’ activities, seldom missing any. One of her happiest moments was becoming great grandma. She enjoyed taking pictures of everyone and everywhere they traveled. No matter where she went she knew someone. In August of 2020 Mary moved to the Knolls Assisted Living in Lincoln, Nebraska. She enjoyed the friends she met there and participating in the many activities they offered. She could often be found playing bingo & cards or working on a puzzle. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don Lauenstein; husband Norman “Hoot” Tesar; Sister Patricia Lautt; niece Amy Himmelberg; and great nephews Charles Himmelberg, Jay Denkert, & Lee Lautt She is survived by son Tony (Karen) Lauenstein of Shickley, Nebraska; grandsons Tyler (Kelsey) Lauenstein of Shickley, Nebraska and Dylan (Taylor) Lauenstein of Geneva, Nebraska; great grandsons Brooks Lauenstein of Shickley, Nebraska and Mason Lauenstein of Geneva, Nebraska; Sister Betty (Robert) Himmelberg of Lawrence, Nebraska; brother –in-law Jake Tesar of Geneva, Nebraska & friend Pam Turner; sisters-in-law Marlys (Jim) Voth of Kearney, Nebraska and Cindy (Steve) Carrigan of Geneva, Nebraska; nieces & nephews; special friend Sharon & Leo Lott of Geneva, Nebraska; and numerous other family & friends. A Funeral Mass for Mary was held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva. A Rosary was prayed prior to the Funeral Mass. Charlotte Bumgarner accompanied the congregation in the singing of “Be Not Afraid,” “Be Still My Soul,” “One Bread, One Body,” “Song Of Farewell,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers for the Funeral included Tyler Lauenstein, Dylan Lauenstein, Tim Himmelberg, Troy Himmelberg, Todd Himmelberg, Jon Denkert, and Ron Ziggafoos. A Graveside Service was held in the Geneva Public Cemetery following the Funeral Mass.
