Nancy Lee Hanouw

Nancy Lee Hanouw was born to John and Ruth (Eustis) Armstrong on July 4, 1938 in Ottawa, Illinois. She passed away on May 18, 2026 at The Pines nursing home in Blue Hill, Nebraska at the age of 87. She was one of 3 children in the family. Nancy graduated from Leland High School in 1956. After graduation she briefly attended Northern Illinois University before marrying Orrin John Hanouw on August 30, 1958. They had 4 children. In 1971, they moved the family to Shickley, Nebraska where Nancy was involved with St. Mary’s Catholic church. She played the organ, led CYO and was a member of the Altar Society. In addition, Nancy was the Shickley city librarian for many years. She also was a special education assistant and foster grandmother in the Shickley Public School. Later, she was a medical transcriptionist at Fillmore County Hospital before retiring. Her hobbies included playing piano, sewing, spending time with her kids and grandkids and watching Cubs baseball games. She enjoyed supporting Orrin at his many tractor pulls. She delighted in gardening and tending to her flowers. Nancy was a woman of incredible faith spending time reading her Bible and sharing Jesus’ love with others. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and niece DeAnn Albright. She is survived by son Greg (Stephanie) Hanouw of Aurora, CO, daughters Linda (Bruce) Jasch of Hastings, NE, Julie (Jerry) Erb of Grand Island, NE and Teresa (Shawn) Wendt of Hastings, NE. Grandchildren: Tyler (Jamye), Lauren (Adam), Brooke (Derek), Benjamin (Sharidan), Abby (Noah), Amber and Courtnie (Danny); great grandchildren: Oliver, Charles, Truett and Miller Erb, Gilbert Theer, Brooks Erb and Bobbie Davidson. She is also survived by her sister Marcia (Ron) Albright, brother Don (Sherry) Armstrong, sister-in-law Janeen Hoadley and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial for Nancy held Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Shickley, Nebraska. Father Harlan Waskowiak presided over the Services. Carol Grote was the organist and she accompanied the congregation in the singing of “I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Song Of Farewell.” Honorary pallbearers included Tyler Erb, Lauren Theer, Brooke Jasch, Benjamin Erb, Abby Davidson, Amber Wendt, and Courtnie Schwenneker. A Graveside Committal of Ashes was in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery or the Adept Nursing & Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Blue Hill (The Pines).
