Sharon K. Lichty

Funeral services for Sharon will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bruning United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Davenport City Cemetery. Visitation is going to be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials are directed to the Davenport City Cemetery or donor's choice. Sharon K. Lichty was born to George & Alma (Brown) Lautenschlager on March 21, 1942 at Hebron, Nebraska and passed away on March 17, 2011 at her winter home in Sun Lakes, Arizona at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 26 days. She was one of four children in her family. Sharon was raised in the Davenport area, graduating from Davenport High School in 1960. She grew up on a farm and enjoyed helping her dad with the daily chores. Following graduation, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where a local energy company employed her until she married Ron Lichty on August 6, 1961. Ron’s parents were renting some of Lautenschlager’s farmland and this is how the couple met. To this union two daughters were born. She devoted a majority of her life to working beside her husband on the farm. They owned a farm outside of Carleton, Nebraska. It wasn’t unusual to see Sharon behind the wheel of the old Ford tilt-cab truck, bouncing along the dirt road. Farming was in this gal’s blood. Along with her help farming, she was constantly gardening, sewing, and cooking up unbelievable meals. Sharon was a loving mother who was always there for her children. She volunteered in many of her children’s activities. Sharon and Ron semi-retired in 2003, when they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. She spent her later years spoiling her grandkids, traveling with friends and family, and attending every school activity she could. Sharon was a true friend. Once you were a friend of hers, you were a friend for life. She could be a bit judgmental, but that led to her charm and honesty. Sharon was also always beautifully dressed. Fashion and style were one of her many interests and talents. Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Eloise and Delores; brother-in-law Victor Hoins; and her in-laws Dean and Margaret Lichty. She is survived by her husband Ron of Lincoln, NE; daughters Rona (Ron) Volkmer of Carleton, NE; Jana (Scott) Schelkopf of Geneva, NE; grandsons Ross Volkmer of Maryville, MO, Riley Volkmer of Kearney, Conrad, Chandler, and Cooper Schelkopf all of Geneva; sister Eunice (Elliott) Jagels of Davenport, NE; sister-in-law DeeAnn Wolfe of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews and many friends.
