Stanley H. Tatro

Stanley Hunter Tatro was born on December 31, 1945, to Don and Irene (Hampton) Tatro in Geneva, Nebraska. He was the youngest of five children. Stan attended country school through the eighth grade and later graduated from Geneva High School in 1963. In March of that year, he joined the National Guard. In 1966, Stan married his high school sweetheart, Connie Sherman. From this union, two children were born, Teresa and Jason. Nephew Donny Tatro became another son after moving in with them. Stan spent his entire life in Fillmore County, a place he was proud to call home. Stan began his working life farming and later worked with Dick Wickman’s hog operation. In time, he was able to start his own livestock business and trucking company, where he did very well with that until, as he would say Jimmy Carter became president and ruined our economy. Stan was never afraid to try something new. Over the years, he went on to sell and install camper jacks and later worked in demolition and scrap iron. His willingness to take on new ventures was a true reflection of his hardworking and determined nature. Stan was fortunate to have his family close by, something he deeply cherished. He loved that Jason farmed and lived on the Tatro homestead and that Teresa lived only blocks away, often stopping by for Friday lunches. Stan made daily drives to check on “the guys,” see what they were up to, and deliver treats to the boys’ puppies. Sunday mornings were spent stopping by all the kids’ homes before heading back to watch NASCAR—but never anything involving a ball. A true character, Stan always seemed to have a clever nickname for everyone, and you had to learn them all to keep up with his stories. He had a big heart, especially when it came to his grandsons, and he was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to two little girls. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Irene Tatro; his brothers, Keith, Don Del, and Sterling Tatro; his grandson, Jake; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Tatro and Dona Tatro; his parents-in-law, Earl and Dorothy Sherman; and his brothers-in-law, Arlan and Tom Sherman. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Connie Tatro; his daughter, Teresa (Phil) Martin; his sons, Jason (Micky) Tatro, and Donny (Sally) Tatro; his grandsons, Austin (Kerri), Brock (Emmie), and Carson (Haley) Tatro; his great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Rylee Tatro; his sister, Sheila Tatro; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Tatro, Fauna Tatro, Carolyn Sherman, Nina (John) Westfall, LaDonna (Gary) Krause and Sue Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for Stanley was held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva. Pastor Jeff Jensen presided over the Memorial Service. The recorded selections for the Memorial Service included “Go Rest High,” “My Way,” “Life’s Railway To Heaven,” and “Daddy Never Was The Cadillac Kind.” Honorary pallbearers included Austin Tatro, Brock Tatro, Carson Tatro, Jeff Whitley, Wayne Broman, and Matt Loseke. A Graveside Committal of Ashes was held in the Geneva Public Cemetery. United States Flag Presentation was performed by Tom Hiatt.
