Agnes Stofer was born to Frank Elznic and Mary Bartu Elznic on December 29, 1920 at Milligan, Nebraska and passed from this life on November 4, 2014 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 1 day. She was one of 13 children. Agnes spent her early years on the family farm north of Milligan. She attended District 2 School. She married Charles (Chick) Stofer on July 12, 1938 in Belleville, Kansas. They enjoyed 63 years together. To this union a daughter, Shirley Ann and son Rodger Charles were born. Chick was a natural mechanic and was sought after by many who knew he would do good, honest work. Agnes was his right-hand helper. Together they built the "Chick's Repair Shop" on North 1Oth Street. They built a reputation for running an immaculate shop and every evening Agnes helped clean the tools and the shop. Agnes opened her home and her heart to children of working Mothers. She later gave this same loving attention to her grandchildren. Gardening and canning the produce were favorite activities for Agnes. She enjoyed cooking, especially Czech foods. Saturdays were baking days and her breads and cream pies were specialties. Her home was a favorite hang-out for children's and grandchildren's friends, especially at meal times. After Chick's death on July 30, 2001, Agnes continued to live in her home and enjoy gardening and visiting with family and friends. Failing health caused her to move to Heritage Crossings in April of 2011 where she enjoyed wonderful care and loving camaraderie with the nurses. Preceding her in death were her husband, Chick, sons-in-law, Richard Thoman and Jerry Hughes and infant grandson Michael Scott Thoman; brothers, Frank, Anton, Joseph, William, James and Louis, and sisters Anna (Mrs. John Stofer), Mamie (Mrs. Joe Cudly), Georgia (Mrs. James Vojta), Emilye (Mrs. Vencil Zenisek), Mildred (Mrs. Lumir Nemeskal) and Alyce (Mrs. Ben Fussell). Leaving to mourn her passing are her daughter, Shirley Hughes of Clinton, OK and son, Rodger and daughter-in-law Mary Stofer, Geneva, NE; Grandchildren Mark Allen and Janice Thoman, Rush Springs, OK, Jon and Lisa Stofer, Geneva, NE; Keri and Mark Cradduck, Gretna, NE; Justin and Heather Stofer, Gretna, NE.
