July 18, 1934 - November 20, 2017
Angeline Ann Betka Sokolik was born to Jerry Jr. Betka and Georgia (Tichy) Betka on July 18th, 1934 and passed away November 20, 2017 at the age of 83. She was the only child in the family. Her mother called her Angeline, and her father called her Angie. Thus, she was known by the two names the rest of her life. Angie grew up on a farm near Friend, Nebraska and graduated from Friend Public School in 1954. She then studied teaching at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. After teaching for a short while, she decided to follow her dream and work in business while also seeing the world. So off to Missouri she went. Over the course of 10 years, she worked in the business offices of multiple hospitals in Kansas City and Independence and eventually oversaw all business office operations. It was an interesting yet challenging time of her life. She continued to develop her skills along the way by taking classes at Rockhurst University that ranged from business to classical music. After Missouri, she spent a short time working in a hospital in West Virginia, and then moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked at a doctor’s office, hospital, and Hejl Oldsmobile. After her father passed away she returned to Nebraska to take care of her mother, and the beloved farm where she had grown up. She then went to work for the Crete Municipal Hospital. She remained there for 28 years, being in charge of the Medical Records Department. She took advanced study classes at St. Mary’s College in Omaha to become an Accredited Records Technician (ART) and the Director of Medical Records Dept. at Crete Municipal Hospital. She loved her job there and retired from fulltime work there in June of 1993. After a short time off, she finished her career with the State of Nebraska Temporary Service where she filled in for the agencies as needed. She really enjoyed this, working with 10 departments over the course of 3 years. She spent her retirement gardening and growing roses and tulips, working outside at her house in Lincoln and at the farm and also taking care of her beloved pets - the cats. She loved animals of all kinds--cats, dogs, horses, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, you name it. She always said, "When I die I will go to Heaven to take care of all of God’s animals in Heaven. He needs someone to do that.” August 9, 1973 she married Reginald Edward Sokolik. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Jr.and Georgia, her husband, Reginald Edward Sokolik, and double first cousin Eugene Betka and his descendents Steve Betka and Doug Betka. Surviving Relatives include Derek Betka and wife Brooke, Kayleigh, Kelsey, and Kaitlyn, Ryan Betka, and numerous cousins and friends. A Funeral Service for Angeline was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska. Pastor Stuart Davis officiated the service.
