    Bernard H. Lutz

    February 17, 1933 - June 12, 2014

    Bernard Henry Lutz was born to Philip Henry Lutz Jr. and Sophia Henrietta Maler Lutz on February 17, 1933, at rural Fairmont, Nebraska and passed away June 12, 2014, at the Tabitha Care Home in Crete, Nebraska at the age of 81 years 4 months and 12 days. He was one of 7 children in the family. Bernard completed the 8th grade at District #76 in York County. He quit school to help out on the family farm. Bernard lived on the family farm until 1963. He farmed and was a hog buyer for Farmland in Crete for 18 years. Some of his other jobs included unloading coal cars in Cordova, county bridgework for York County, Holcomb Hatchery in York, Petro Truck Stop in York, Styskal T & L Irrigation, Lincoln Journal-Star carrier and owning and operating Grandpa’s Kennels raising Sharpeii and Lhasa Apso dogs. Bernard was married to Velma Irene Larson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska on July 28, 1963 and to them 3 daughters were born. He enjoyed farming and working with livestock. He was a prolific gardener and enjoyed a good game of cards. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. Bernard was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cordova. He was also affiliated with the Living Word Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska, Lutheran Men’s League and held various positions at St. John’s. He was a volunteer fireman in Cordova and served on the advisory board of the Blue Valley Community Action in Seward County. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Sophia Lutz, sisters Anna Lutz, Velma Selvig, Ruth Lutz and Vera Blum and husband Harold, and brother-in-law, Pete Hanson. He is survived by his wife Velma; daughters Lucinda (VB) Johnson, Thais (Rodney) Brejcha, Myretta (Greg) Whittington; grandchildren RoxAnne (Thomas) Bates, Clarissa (Justin) Mueller, Lindsay, Claire and Anna Lynn Brejcha, Mitchel Whittington and Bradyn Lutz; brother Gerald (Jane) Lutz; sister Elaine Lutz; brothers-in-law Robert Selvig and LeRoy Larson; sister-in-law Lucy Hansen and cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, with Pastor Brian Tuma officiating the funeral service and Pastor James Miller presiding at the committal service. Wilma Gard accompanied Randy Kaliff who sang “I love To Tell The Story” and the congregation who sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Rock of Ages.” Pallbearers were Doug Selvig, Kevin Blum, Norman Lutz, Don Korte, Paul Jurgensen and Russ Bruggeman. Honorary bearers were VB Johnson, Rodney Brejcha, Greg Whittington, Bradyn Lutz, Mitchel Whittington, Thomas Bates, Justin Mueller and Bruce Rogers. Interment was in the Johnson Creek Cemetery rural Friend, Nebraska with Farmer Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are directed to the family for later designation.
