    February 24, 1930 - March 6, 2022

    A Graveside Committal of Ashes for Betty will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, Nebraska. Kim Dunker will preside over the Graveside Service. The family requests memorials to be sent to Macular Degeneration Research at BrightFocus Foundation.org. Betty Lou (Barnes) McPherson of Omaha, Nebraska passed away March 6, 2022 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. She was 92 years old. Betty was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Richard and Leona Barnes. She spent her childhood in Belvidere, Nebraska and graduated from Bruning High School. She studied Education at Kearney State College and taught for a year in a one-room schoolhouse. She went on to continue her education in music at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Betty married Robert McPherson in 1953 and they raised two children, a daughter and son, in Hastings, Nebraska. Betty was a devoted mother and daughter. She was a skilled bookkeeper and worked for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society of Long Beach California for twenty years. Her many interests and talents were cooking, sewing, gardening, and travel. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Kate) Smith and her husband John, son Scott McPherson, M.D., and his wife Kimberly, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by one grandchild.
