Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva, NE with Pastor Stephen Kruschel officiating. Visitation for Laverna will begin on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Graveside services will take place at the Geneva Public Cemetery. Memorials are directed to Grace Lutheran School, Grace Lutheran Church & Nebraska Lutheran High School. Laverna Louise Everts was born on November 11, 1916 on a farm near Geneva, Nebraska to Minnie (Domeier) Everts and George Everts. She was the oldest of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother Herman Everts who passed away in 1979, and her sister Videl Oates who died in 1985. She is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Everts of Seward. She is also survived by her nephews: Jim (Rosemary) Everts of Goehner; Dick (Betty) Everts of Omaha; Steve (Joan) Everts of Janesville, Wisconsin; and Ed (Laura) Everts of Daytona Beach, Florida. She is also survived by her nieces: Pat (and the late Larry) Heller of Omaha; Shirley Oates of Omaha; Miriam (Gary) Kimbrough of Geneva; Jan (Jon) Halleen of Savage, Minnesota; Sheri (Jay) Noren Everts of Boone, North Carolina; and Kathy (Steve) Danielson of Lincoln. She is also survived by 11 great-nieces, 12 great-nephews, 15 great-great-nieces, and 13 great-great-nephews. Laverna was baptized on December 17, 1916 at the home of Anton and Lena Domeier in rural Geneva by Pastor William Wietzke. She was confirmed on September 7, 1930 at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva by Pastor R. H. Vollmer. Laverna graduated from Geneva High School in 1935. She had taken Normal School Training in high school and used her certificate to teach after her graduation from high school. She continued to take college classes in the evenings and summers and received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1970 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She taught at country schools near Geneva and Grafton for 12 years before becoming the first teacher at Grace Lutheran School in Geneva. She taught at Grace Lutheran School for 12 years and then taught at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Norfolk for 21 years. She retired from 45 years of teaching in 1981 and moved back to Geneva to be near her family. Laverna enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and music. She served as a church organist for 50 years. She also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and visiting with friends and family. She recently attended her 80th high school class reunion and was recognized for being the oldest returning graduate of Geneva High School.
