Lewis F. "Bud" Garland

Lewis Frederick Garland was born to Lewis H. Garland and Fern F. (Eppler) Garland on December 22, 1923, at Ohiowa, Nebraska and passed away May 28, 2012, at the Genoa Long Term Care in Genoa, Nebraska at the age of 88 years. He was one of 3 children in the family. Lewis or as he was more commonly known, “Bud” lived in the Ohiowa area all of his life. He graduated from the Ohiowa High School in 1942 with honors. Bud was married to Theo May Speed of Greenfield, Iowa on May 23, 1960. Bud grew up on the farm and spent his life farming and raising cattle. He was especially proud of the fact that his nephews took over the farm and continued with the farming operation. Bud was a member of the Ohiowa United Methodist Church and the Ohiowa Chamber of Commerce. Bud always had a way with the English language, sometimes making it rather colorful with his choice of words and phrases. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Lewis H. and Fern Garland, wife Theo, sister and brother in law Velma and Robert Bock, and brother and sister in law Arnold and Sharon Garland. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Bobbie Itzen and husband Marvin and their children Marla and Ty; Allan Garland; Larry Garland and wife Shawna and their children Shelby and Cody; Terri Garland; and Kristi Coggins and husband John and their children Cole and Dane. Funeral service for Lewis will be Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, rural Ohiowa, Nebraska. Interment will be in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery. Public visitation will begin Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Nebraska. Memorials are directed to the Ohiowa Fire & Rescue.
