Memorials are to be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Lorene South of Geneva, Nebraska was born on June 19, 1931 on a farm west of Ohiowa, Nebraska to Eleanor Sophia (Saatmann) and George Andrew Hillgren. She passed away at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, Nebraska on August 1, 2021 at the age of 90. She was one of 3 children in the family. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Ohiowa. She attended country school and then attended and graduated high school from Ohiowa, Nebraska. Lorene grew up helping out on the family farm west of Ohiowa, along with her two brothers. She met her husband Louis (Bill) South when he came to put electrical services to the family farm. They were married on February 1, 1951. To their union were born four daughters. Susan, Ronda, Becky, and Regina. Lorene moved to Geneva after graduation and worked all of her life in the health care field. Her life was fulfilled by helping and taking care of others. Even after she herself needed care, she still found ways to help and care for others where ever she was. She enjoyed going to coffee with her friends, reading, watching television, playing bingo, and going to movies. Lorene was most proud of her family, she always wanted to tell everyone about her grandchildren. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, brothers Donald and his wife Helen, and Ernest (Dutch) Hillgren, son Ronnie, step-daughter Dixie Schmidt, stepson Jerry South, and son-in-law Glen Roesler, sister-in-law Roberta Nichols. Lorene is survived by her daughters Susan (Thomas) Hume of West Richland, Washington, Ronda (Lynn) Rich of York, Nebraska, Becky Roesler of Geneva, Nebraska, and Regina (Joe) Jorgensen of Evanston, Wyoming, seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren, step-daughter Peggy Gibert, stepson Larry South, sister-in-law Joy Rae Scanlan, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Eleanor Dittmer.
