A Funeral Mass for Mary was held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva. Father Tom Walsh officiated the services along with Father Julius Tvrdy, Mrgr. James Reinert. Burial followed the Mass in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.Memorials are directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Margaret Mary (Weis) O'Brien, daughter of John R. and Margaret (Jungers) Weis, was born March 12, 1927, in Geneva, Nebraska. She passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at York General Hearthstone in York, Nebraska, at the age of 87 years and 10 days. The youngest of eight children, Mary attended Saint Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Geneva High School in the class of 1944. After graduating, she worked at J.C. Penny and the Fillmore County Treasurer’s Office, and she was a bookkeeper at Geneva State Bank, where she met her husband of 63 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Altar Society, and the Crosier Apostolate. A devout Catholic, Mary was devoted to daily mass and the rosary. She married John T. O'Brien of Grafton, Nebraska, on June 7, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva. John and Mary had 10 children. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and enjoyed preparing holiday meals. Family was the center of her travels and activities. In addition, she was an avid reader and loved music. She made sure all her children had music lessons. Mary was a person of quiet intelligence who gave wise council to her family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John T. O’Brien; her parents; her brothers Sylvester, Clarence, Joseph and Francis Weis; and her sisters Mildred Hayen, Lavina Reinsch, and Helen Engle. Mary is survived by children and spouses Margaret & husband David Fuchser of O’Neill, NE; John J. & wife Linda O’Brien of Sacramento, CA; Mary Kathryn & husband Thomas Gregg of Ralston, NE; Patrick J. & wife Cheryl O’Brien of Carroll, IA; Sharon & husband Max Miller of Geneva, NE; Joseph B. & wife Ann O’Brien of Malvern, PA; Jane O’Brien of Storm Lake, IA; Suzanne Zeutzius of Lincoln, NE; Michele & husband Matthew Gotschall of Columbus, NE; and Anne & husband Glen Slater of Clay Center, NE; sister-in-law Frances Fessler of Sutton, NE; grandchildren Brian Fuchser, Elizabeth Fuchser, and Kathryn & husband Kyle Meyer; Robert and wife Christina Gregg and Christina Marie Gregg and fiancée Jake Ozanne; Adam & wife Jaime O’Brien and Quinn & wife Miranda O’Brien; Margie Miller and fiancée Fidel Martinez, Mark, and Matthew Miller; Carissa and Sean O’Brien; Benjamin Heath and Tanner and Emma Zeutzius; Madalyn, Macy, Molly, Monica, and Mallory Gotschall; Sara, Amanda, and Nicholas Slater; and great-grandchildren Connor & Noah O’Brien and Elijah Meyer.
