Marjorie J. (Johnson) Bedlan was born June 6, 1945 to Vernon W. Johnson and A. June (Manners) Johnson in Davenport, Nebraska. She was the second of three children. She passed away on January 9, 2022, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 76. Marge was baptized on November 14, 1945 and was confirmed in faith on June 12, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, Nebraska. The Bible verse that Pastor John Hieronymus picked out for her on confirmation day was Psalm 28.7: “The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart trusted in him and I am helped.” She grew up on a farm near Bruning and could often be found with her mom in the kitchen or helping with the farm chores. Marge attended Bruning Public School, graduating with the Class of 1963. While still in school, she enjoyed helping teach Vacation Bible School. Marge also was very passionate about music. She could hum, whistle or sing about any tune. She would often start singing a song related to whatever the situation or discussion may have been. During her high school years, she played the piano for Mrs. Heironymus’s children’s choir, played the saxophone in the high school and dance band, accompanied singing groups for music contests, sang and played the saxophone in some small groups. One of the highlights of her life was to join the Glenn James Orchestra when they needed a saxophone player. After graduating from high school, she attended Lincoln School of Commerce/Nebraska Business Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked in Lincoln until December 1965 at which time she moved back to Bruning. Her first daughter, Stacey, was born in March 1966. On December 27, 1969, she married Bob during a blizzard at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in rural Shickley, Nebraska. In June 1973, Lisa joined the family with the addition of Kim in September 1980. Throughout her life she held various positions of employment. She was the secretary for Superintendent Howard Glenn at the Bruning Public School and enjoyed working with the teachers and students for several years. After leaving the secretarial position at the Bruning school she cleaned homes and offices, did bookwork for her brothers-in-law businesses at Jim’s Garage and cooked/served at Ken’s Corner. She also worked at Busse’s Grocery Store and in the Admissions Department of Fillmore County Hospital before taking a job with Biegert Feeds in Shickley in April of 1990. She dearly loved working at Biegert Feeds. Jeff Biegert, her co-workers and customers were all so great to work with. Even though she was usually the brunt of jokes from some co-workers and the boss, she loved every bit of it. From a live snake in a UPS box put there by a co-worker to an unverified tornado instigated by the boss, to holes poked in pop cans, it was all enjoyed. She didn’t get mad, she just got even. Marge deeply loved her family. Her rheumatoid arthritis didn’t allow her to attend many of her grandkid’s events, but she was always there in spirt and couldn’t wait to hear all about it. She also really loved watching sporting events, especially Nebraska Volleyball. Marge had a heart of gold and she never met a stranger. Marge is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon & June Johnson; step-mom, Lola Johnson; parents-in-law, Leo & Marge Bedlan; brothers-in-law Kenneth Bedlan and Douglas Wiedel; nephew Tim Bedlan; and niece Lori Bedlan-Robbins. Marge is survived by her husband, Bob Bedlan of Shickley, Nebraska; daughters Stacey (Mark) Olson of Cumberland, Iowa, Lisa (Rueben) Engle of Clive, Iowa, Kim (Lane) McDuffee of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren Nisa Olson, Lane (Valerie) Engle, Kailey Engle, Dylan McDuffee and Greyson McDuffee; brother Bill (Joni) Johnson, sister Colleen Wiedel, sister-in-law Karen Bedlan, brothers-in-law Gene Bedlan and Jim Bedlan; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
