Funeral service for Maxine will be 10:30 am Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Exeter, Nebraska. Visitation will begin Friday, August 25, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 at the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter, Nebraska Graveside services will be in the Exeter Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the family for later designation Maxine Faye (Ernst) Schiefelbein, 92, passed away August 20, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Maxine was born May 27, 1925 Kenesaw, Adams Co. Nebraska to Roy and Edith (Ellis) Ernst. Maxine was the youngest of 4 children. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1942 and attended the Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney that summer. This allowed her to teach country school, K-8 that fall. During her teaching career Maxine taught school in the following districts: 47, 81, 42, 1, 64, 42, 29, 41/68, 75, 61, 100, 88, 25, and 9. These rural schools served Adams, Kearney, Buffalo, Seward, Saline, and Grant counties. Other districts served the communities of Shelton, Cordova, Roseland, Milligan, and Denman. On December 30, 1948 Maxine married Myron Schiefelbein in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made the Hastings area their home while Myron served in the Korean War. Upon return to civilian life they moved to Friend, Nebraska where their 3 children Danny, Nancy and Tommy were born and raised. During this time Maxine taught school and worked local jobs while attending night and summer school at UNL. She earned her degree from the Lincoln Teachers College at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in August of 1976. The family made Exeter their home in 1976 where they purchased and ran the “Shuffle Inn” tavern and café. After the sale of the business Maxine taught at district 9 in Grant County located in the Sandhills of Nebraska. After education retirement Maxine became a Nebraska tour guide working at tourist information centers along I-80. She loved the state of Nebraska and its’ history. Maxine stayed active in her church, was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary, enjoyed sewing, bowling, quilting, cards, cooking, family activities, Royals baseball, Husker football, volleyball and basketball. Myron and Maxine loved travel by car and camping within the state of Nebraska. Other travels took them from coast to coast, Hawaii and Europe. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron, son Tom, granddaughter Natasha, brother and spouse, LaVerne (Bud) & Lois Ernst, sisters and spouses Arlien & Carl Bundy, Beulah & Don Mapes. She is survived by children & spouses, Dan & Darla Schiefelbein (Columbus, NE. ) Nancy & Roger Bruner (Lincoln, NE.) Grandchildren, Erin & Jeff Eickhoff, (Albion NE) Adam & Courtney Stottler (Alma NE.) Jack & Joseph Bruner (Lincoln NE.) Great-grandchildren Evan, Reagan & Joslyn Eickhoff, Jaxton and Malia Stottler. Maxine is survived by sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Meyer (Aurora IL.), Wauneta Schiefelbein(Hastings NE.), Mary Lou Schiefelbein (Boise ID.), and Sue Schiefelbein(Troy MO.) Numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
