Melva Jean Bockus Burger Waldron was born to William Ernest Bockus and Violet Rachel Bacon on November 9, 1932 at Pawnee City, Nebraska and passed away July 19, 2018 at Filmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was one of 8 children in the family. Melva grew up mostly in Pawnee City and was married to Merle Eugene Burger of Table Rock, Nebraska on June 6, 1948 and to them 6 children were born. They lived in Table Rock where Melva sacrificed and worked very hard to raise the children on her own. She was employed at Campbell’s Soup Company in Tecumseh for 21 years. Towards the end of her employment, she met and married Daniel L. Waldron on February 8, 1986 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer, Nebraska. Melva retired at age 62 and moved to Geneva. She enjoyed dancing and travel with Dan and they enjoyed their 15 years of wintering in Arizona which lasted as long as their health would allow. Melva was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Geneva. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Family was very important to Melva, as she loved spending time with them. She especially loved the babies! Melva also loved gardening, flowers and sewing. Melva was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Bockus and Violet Kimes; first husband Merle Burger; sister Belva Mendenhall; half sister Ethel Sugden; sons David Burger and Daniel Burger; daughter-in-law Denise Burger and grandsons Michael Burger and Steven G. Burger. She is survived by husband Dan Waldron; son Steven A. Burger; daughters Phyllis (Steven) Renz, Ella (Curt) Wathor, and Patricia (Greg) Therien; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; 4 stepsons Dale (Nancy) Waldron, David (Carla) Waldron, Danny (Becky) Waldron, Dean (Karrie) Waldron; 10 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; brothers Richard (Peggy) Bockus, Raymond (Earlene) Bockus; half-brother Harvey (Linda) Kimes; sister Zelma Schnepp, half-sister Connie Summers; and nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was conducted from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Fr. Harlan Waskowiak was the Celebrant. Charlotte Bumgarner accompanied the congregation in the singing of “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Pallbearers included Matthew Burger, Aaron Burger, Ryan Renz, Kyle Wathor, Terry Bassinger and Nathan Doher. Honorary pallbearers were: Sarah Ulfers, Heather Silver, Holly Oman, Heidi Doher, Bethany Renz, Angela Bassinger, Toby Burger, Scott Burger, Kaitlin Wathor and Cassandra Buethe. Interment was in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Steinauer, Nebraska at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 with Farmer and Sons Mortuary in care of arrangements.
