Norine was born to John and Amanda Bartels Lange on the family farm west of Hebron, Nebraska on May 28, 1926. She was the youngest of six children. She was baptized in June at Trinity Lutheran Church west of Hebron. Later her family joined Grace Lutheran Church in where they worshipped at the auditorium of Hebron College. She started school at District 11 west of Hebron. Her family moved many times during her childhood. She attended District 90, District 83, and District 13 Grade Schools prior to entering high school. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on June 16, 1940 by pastor G.J. Heitmann. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 145: 18-19 “The lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry and will save them. Norine graduated in1943 from Carleton High School. For several years after graduation she worked for many families when they had new babies and families that needed assistance at the time of an illness. Norine met Cliff Philippi when the Bruning and Carleton church choirs sang together for Mission Festival. They were married on November 14, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Carleton. They moved to the Philippi family farm near Bruning. She enjoyed being a farmwife. Their daughter Joy joined their home on April 2, 1957 from the Nebraska Children’s Home in Omaha. Norine was active in her church, Trinity Lutheran, community organizations, and events. She enjoyed doing handwork, especially crocheted names and quilts for family and friends. She passed away on June 9, 2015 at the age of 89 years and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leo and Norman Lange, sisters Loretta Heinrichs, Alma Macy, Viora Bauman, several brothers and sisters in-law and two nephews. She is survived by Cliff her husband of 67 years and their daughter Joy. One Sister-in- Law Lucille and Ward Fitzke. Honorary grandchildren, Angie and Dom Theaker, Alison and Devin Stickel and Scott Philippi Her nieces and nephews, Ann and Kevin Schultz, Marilyn Philippi, JoAnne and Delmar Miller, Lyle and Francis Heinrichs, Kenneth and Angie Macy, Rosalie Lange, Ron and Lucinda Lange, Sandra and Alan Rosenboom, Elwyn and Linda Fitzke, Janet Fitzke, David and Carlyn Block and Sue and Paul Biard. Special friends Leroy and Carol Voss;, and their sons Joel, Neal and Tara, Cory and Samantha. Many relatives, friends and neighbors. Funeral service for Norine will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, Nebraska with Pastor Stuart Sell officiating. Interment will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Public visitation will begin Thursday at 3 pm until 8 pm at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Nebraska. Norine always said she wanted to enjoy flowers while she was living and asked that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the Nebraska Childrens Home in Omaha.
