Memorial services for Pat will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Geneva. Pastor Ron Harris will be officiating the services. There will be a private family committal of ashes in the Geneva Public Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the family and will be designated at a later date. Genevieve E “Pat” Lefever was born to Melvin Elward and Phyllis Kiester Elward on July 16th, 1927 at Strang NE and passed away March 19, 2014 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 3 days. She was one of 2 children in the family.Pat was born in Strang NE and lived there until she was in 4th grade when her family moved to Geneva. Her father Melvin passed away when Pat was 3. She graduated from Geneva high school with the class of 1945 and after graduation moved to San Francisco California. Pat returned to Geneva after a serious car accident and went on to receive her teaching certification. Her first teaching experience was at Rural district #15 west of Fairmont where many stories were told of how much she enjoyed her one room school and the students. She then taught in Hastings public schools for a few years. Pat was married to Wayne Lefever of Geneva NE, on July 26, 1953 and to them 2 children were born. They moved to their farm west of Strang where they raised their family. In 1978 Pat and Wayne moved to Geneva where they resided until Wayne passed away in 1985 and Pat moved to Heritage Crossings in 2012.The United Methodist Church was a very important part of Pat’s life as she was a member for over 60 years. She served on many committees and was very proud to have taught Sunday School for 50 years. She was passionate about Nebraska football, golf and tennis. Square dancing was something she and Wayne enjoyed for many years.Volunteering for various organizations was also a passion for Pat. Besides the church she served on the arts council, hospital auxiliary and Blue Valley food pantry. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always her pride and joy and she was always there when needed.Pat was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, parents Melvin Elward, Phyllis Walker and Leon Walker and brother Eugene Elward.She is survived by son Craig Lefever of Tucson AZ and daughter Rene’ Barney and her husband Rod of Geneva. Grandsons Shawn and Amanda Barney, their children Elizabeth, Kennedy, Aliviah and AJ of Strang and Brandon Barney and daughters Brianna and Natalee of Lincoln. She is also survived by 3 sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
