Funeral services for Russell will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Geneva, Nebraska. Military Graveside services will follow the funeral at the Geneva Public Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials are directed to the Assembly of God Church in Geneva. Russell Bland (Bus) Foster passed away on February 5, 1913 at Heritage Crossing in Geneva, Nebraska. He was born on June 2, 1916 in Valentine, Nebraska, the oldest son of Ernest Bland and Ethel Belle (Porter) Foster. He graduated from Valentine High School in 1934. On June 2, 1939, he married Wilma Jane Allen of Valentine. They had two children: son, Jerry and daughter, Carol. Russell became a part-time employee of the U.S. Weather Bureau in Valentine. He served as a weather observer for the U.S. Army in World War II, continued to take weather observations in Valentine until 1980, and weather was always a favorite topic of conversation. He worked for the First National Bank in Valentine, retiring in 1979 after nearly 20 years of service. He was active in the local community, serving as a school board member and chairman, city councilman and mayor while in Valentine. Russell & Wilma moved to Geneva in 1980 to be near Carol and her family. They celebrated 66 years together prior to Wilma’s passing in 2005. Russell was a faithful member of the Assembly of God churches in both Valentine and Geneva. Russell is survived by his son Jerry (Pauline) of Manassas, Virginia; a son-in-law, Chet Frey (Gloria) of Geneva; 6 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Carol Frey of Geneva; a sister, Ruth; and a brother, Lloyd.
