Shirley L. Kennel Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley LaVada (Noel) Kennel was born to Henry Noel and Saloma Lauber Noel on January 5, 1926 at Strang, NE and passed away April 18, 2012, at St Jane de Chantal Long Term Care Services in Lincoln NE, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 13 days. Shirley was married to Vernon Paul Kennel of Shickley, NE, on August 28, 1946 and to them 6 children were born. Shirley is survived by sons, Dallas (Lala) Kennel of Shickley, Layle Kennel of Shickley; daughters, Diane (John) Schweitzer of Lincoln, Lisa Kennel and special friend Don Hafer of Geneva and Lanae (Dave) Miers of Lincoln; seven grandchildren: Susan (John) Janing, Dana (Lance) Fiala, Derek (Angela) Schweitzer, Josh (Meagann) Schweitzer, Jaron (Anna) Schweitzer, and McKenzie & Maci Miers; 11 great-grandchildren: Isaac, Anna & Ellie Janing, Taryn, Raegan, and Layton Fiala, Devon, Damon, Degan, and Dreylen Schweitzer, Zaylie Schweitzer, and two to be born in September; two sisters-in-law, Wilda Noel (Shickley), Frieda Noel (Boise Idaho); and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Vernon in 2001, her parents, her infant son Doyle, and her two brothers, Sterling and Duane. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a gracious lady who loved to read, tend her flower gardens, and was known for the letters she wrote regularly to her family and friends. She always had a loving smile and was a hard worker at home, on the farm, and in her career as a librarian at the Virgil Biegert Public Library in Shickley where she worked for many years. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Mennonite Church, rural Shickley, with Pastor Shawn Nolt officiating the services. A public visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials are directed to the Salem Mennonite Church or the Virgil Biegert Library.
