A Funeral Service for Stanley was held on Monday, August 26, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at the Salem Mennonite Church in rural Shickley, Nebraska with Pastor Shawn Nolt presiding. There were 3 special music selections played for Stanley’s service, “It Is Well With My Soul” by Joey + Rory, “I’ll Fly Away” by Alan Jackson” and “Softly And Tenderly” by Guy Penrod. Organist, Roxie Schlegel, accompanied Song Leader, Cecil Kennel, and the congregation singing the hymn, “Blessed Assurance”. Casket Bearers included Phillip Bruning, Nicholas Naimon, Steven Naimon, Matthew Naimon, Nathan Kriete, Joshua Kriete and Charlie Clark. Honorary Casket Bearers were Draco Theodore Bruning, Ares Walter Bruning, Hope Marie Warford and Wade Ray Kriete. Military Graveside Services were conducted at the Bruning Public Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., on Monday with the Geneva VFW – Samuel J. Marsh Post 7102 and the Nebraska Military Honor Guard conducting Military Honors for Stanley’s service in our United States Army. Memorials were directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Farmer & Son Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Stanley George Bruning was born on January 1, 1936 to Walter and Doris (Bowen) Bruning. Stanley passed away on August 22, 2019 at Hooper Care Center in Hooper, Nebraska at the age of 83. Stanley was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran Church and later at Salem Mennonite Church in Shickley, Nebraska. Stanley’s strong faith in Christ was kept at the center of his life, family and relationships. He stayed connected to his faith and church by leading bible studies. Stanley was married to Carol P. Schweitzer on May 3, 1959 at Salem Mennonite Church in Shickley, Nebraska. The couple first lived in Bruning, Nebraska before moving to Shickley, Nebraska where the couple provided foster care and raised their children. Stanley worked for the Shickley Lumber Yards for 15 years and was the custodian for the school for 20 years. He enjoyed farming, gardening and puzzles. Stanley was quick to help those around him enjoyed maintaining relationships with friends and family. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents and sister. Nina Clark. Stanley is survived by his wife, Carol, brothers, Ross Bruning (JoAnn) and Wayne Bruning, (Helen) foster son, Thomas Pokaluk, (Sue Beck) son, Brent Bruning, daughter Julie Kriete (Larry). Stanley found joy in his grandchildren: Ben Bruning (Loretta), Phil Bruning, Nick Naimon, Steven Naimon, Matthew Naimon, Nathan Kriete (Alexis), Joshua Kriete and Nicole Warford well as his great grandchildren: Draco Bruning, Ares Bruning , Wade Kriete and Hope Warford.
