    Thomas G. "Tom" Kerl

    November 20, 1926 - May 12, 2022

    A Memorial Service for Tom will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, Nebraska. A private Committal of Ashes will be held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Thomas Gordon Kerl was born November 20th, 1926, to Herman and Frieda (Middendorf) Kerl near Bruning, NE. He passed away May 12th, 2022, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 95 years 5 months 22 days. Tom was baptized into the faith at Trinity Lutheran Church December 5th, 1926, and confirmed March 29th, 1942. Following graduation from Bruning High School, he served in WWII for the US Army Corps of Engineers from March 21, 1945, to December 3, 1946. He served in the Occupational Army in Japan. We are so proud of him. Tom returned to farm with his father after his service. He was married November 9th, 1952, to Lucille M. Babka. Three children were born to this union, Gordon (Joan), Gerald (Susan), and Shari (Joe) Nigro. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his dad's second wife Frieda (Dunse) Kerl, his son Gerald, and great-grandson Jude Citta. He is survived by his son Gordon and his daughter-in-law Joan Kerl, daughter-in-law Susan Kerl, daughter Shari and son-in-law Joe Nigro, grandchildren Daniel (Evelyn) Kerl, Katie (Justin) Nicola, Margaret (Kyle) Citta, Betsy (Tanner) Winslow, Nick Nigro, Wade, Faith, and Zack Kerl, great-grandchildren Tae, Tekell and Aspen Binder, Teddy and Eloise Winslow, Imogen Citta, and Sutton Nicola. He was a kind, humble, and lovely man who loved farming, his family, his faith, and a good piece of pie, hot or cold.
