    Wilson F. "Bud" Bruning

    February 28, 1931 - October 15, 2020

    A Private Family Memorial Service for Wilson was held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Nebraska with Kim Dunker presiding. There were 3 recorded songs during the memorial service for Wilson, “Welcome To My World” by Jim Reeves; “Where The Stars & Stripes & Eagle Fly” by Aaron Tippen and “A Cowboy’s Last Ride” by Gord Bamford. Honorary Urn Bearers included Jackson Chapman, Tyler Chapman, Jaci Chapman, Rhett Rangel, Reed Rangel, Ren Rangel, Kaiden Ashmead, Allin Rust and Hilary Ashmead. Military Graveside Services were conducted by the Bruning American Legion Durham-Mammen Post 166 at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Bruning, Nebraska. Memorials were directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Farmer & Son Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Wilson Frederick “Bud” Bruning was born to Frederick M. Bruning and Antje (Anna) Marie Wilhems on February 28, 1931 at Bruning, Nebraska, and passed away October 15, 2020, at Thayer County Health Services, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 89. He was one of three children in the family. Bud was a life-long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning. He attended grade school at West Ward Country School west of Bruning. He attended high school at Bruning High School and graduated in 1948. A highlight of Bud’s younger days was playing in the Mickey Kull Orchestra. Bud served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 – 1954. He was stationed in Germany. On February 20, 1955, he married Rose Marie Nedza. They were blessed to have spent 65 years together. Three children were born to this union: Bruce Alan, Cynthia Sue, and Darren Lee. Bud farmed for 8 years on his own. He then worked for Frank and Mary Bruning at Feedlot Fencing until 1976. In 1976, Bud and Rose Marie and Darren moved to Gruver, Texas and cowboyed at Caprock Feedlot until 1991. At that time, Bud and Rose Marie moved back to Bruning, NE. After moving back Bud helped out at Bruning Farms. He also enjoyed helping Doug Bruning during harvest time. Bud loved serving his community! He was Village Board President and member for many years, very active in the American Legion and a faithful paper delivery boy to the residents of Bruning for many years! Bud was preceded in death by his brother Billy Bruce; parents, Frederick and Antje (Anna) Bruning; sister, Phyllis Currey; brother-in-law, Clinton Currey; sister-in-law, Maria Nedza; parents-in-law, Charles and Agnes Nedza; long time friends, Norman Dee and Carol Schoenholz. Bud is survived by wife, Rose Marie Bruning of Bruning, NE.; sons, Bruce Bruning of Pueblo, CO.; Darren Bruning of Delta Junction, AK.; daughter, Cynthia (Tony) Woff of Brookville, KS.; granddaughters, Tiffany (Mark) Case of Robert Lee, TX; Tara (Jacob) Chapman of Albany, TX; Antjea Wolff of Pittsburg, KS; and Miaya Ashmead of Bend, OR.; grandson, Wilson Lee Bruning of San Diego, CA. and 9 great grand children.
