Geralene A. "Gerry" Robinson

Geralene Ann Robinson was born to Alan Lyle Harvey and Ethel Janet (Johansen) Harvey on August 19, 1935 at Ogallala, Nebraska, and passed away March 12, 2022 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 24 days. She was one of 4 children in the family. Gerry, as she was affectionately known, grew up in the Brule area and graduated from high school in Brule, Nebraska in 1953. Following high school, Gerry moved to Denver, Colorado and received instruction in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She practiced nursing in Ogallala, Nebraska and Thermopolis, Wyoming. While working in Thermopolis, she met a young Kansas man who came into the clinic from the Oil Fields near Thermopolis, Robert “Bob” Robinson. From there a relationship grew and they were married in Phillipsburg, Kansas on September 15, 1957. To this union three children were born: Scott, Dallas and Ruth. The family located in Phillipsburg, Kansas before moving to Geneva, Nebraska in 1958 when Bob took a job driving truck for Farmland. For many years, Gerry was an in-home Mary Kary Representative, selling makeup products to many customers. She also worked at Andrews Electric and spent many years working at the Geneva Elementary School as a playground supervisor while also helping in the kitchen when needed. Gerry enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, being active in her children’s activities and taking care of the house while Bob was on the road in the truck. She also enjoyed bowling, dancing, talking on the phone with friends and family, and watching westerns with Bob in their spare time. She was actively involved in the Red Hat Society, Order Of the Eastern Star, served as a Den Mother for Boy Scout Troop 175, Fillmore County Hospital Auxiliary serving as the Star of Lights Chairperson for several years, and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where she and Bob were 60-year members. On sunny pleasant days, you could often find Bob and Gerry sitting on the front porch of their home on H Street. Gerry will be remembered for her kind spirit and gentle ways. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents Alan & Ethel; sister Dorothy & Donald Hoben; brothers Donald Harvey and Gerald Harvey; infant son John Alan Robinson; and son Dallas Robinson. She is survived by her husband Bob of Geneva, Nebraska; son Scott Robinson and wife Mary of Chehalis, Washington; daughter Ruth Schake and husband Rod of Ashland, Nebraska; niece Sheila Hoben of Mesquite, Texas; nephews Christopher Hoben and wife Debbie of Thornton, Colorado, Brad Hoben and wife Michelle of Thornton, Colorado, Shawn Hoben and wife Linda of San Diego, California, Michael Hoben and wife Kristi of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren Caleb Lindley and fiancé Ashley Booth of Lincoln, Nebraska, Christopher Schake and fiancé Nycole Christensen of Glenwood, Iowa, Jaclyn Schake of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandchildren Lilian Rose Schake, Amelia Ann Hobbs, Willow Michelle Love Lindley, Carsen Laursen, Connor Scott Lindley, and Colton William Booth-Lindley. A Memorial Service for Gerry was held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva, Nebraska. Kim Dunker presided over the Memorial Service. The recorded selections “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Gathering Flowers For The Master’s Bouquet,” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” were played during the Memorial Service. Honorary Pallbearers included Scott Robinson, Dallas Robinson, Christopher Schake, Caleb Lindley, and Jaclyn Schake. A Graveside Committal of Ashes was held in the Geneva Public Cemetery following the Memorial Service.
