Joyce A. Murrell

A Graveside Service for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairmont Public Cemetery in Fairmont, Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Nebraska. Memorials are to be directed to the family to be designated at a later date in Joyce's name. Joyce Murrell was born to Myrl Ernst and Maebelle (Decker) Ernst in Strang, Nebr. May 11, 1930. She passed away September 13, 2024 in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 94. Her father passed away when she was 4 years old, so her mother had to go to work to support her 2 children. Joyce’s maternal grandparents helped raise her. They then moved to Geneva, and that is where she resided until she married Bob Murrell on September 16, 1946. This union was blessed with 6 children: Michael Eugene, Patsy Jo, Barbara Kay, Sharon Lea, Robert Dennis and Julie Ann. She was a member of the Methodist church in Geneva growing up and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Fairmont. Joyce was a housewife and mother first until the children were raised, then she worked in an upholstery shop and then spent 13 ½ years at Fairview Manor in Fairmont working as a nurse’s aide. She felt very rewarded with that job taking care of others. She also loved her children and her grandchildren who she took care of a lot. She was very proud of them all and enjoyed all the time spent with them. Then the great grandchildren came along and kept her life interesting. She said it made her life worth living. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Murrell, father Myrl Ernst, mother Maebelle Ernst, brother Arly Ernst, her grandparents George and Elizabeth Decker who raised her, her daughter Patsy Jo Ahrens, grandson Zack Murrell and her husband’s parents John and Julia Murrell who meant so much to her. She leaves to mourn her passing: 2 sons Michael and wife Judy Murrell of Chillicothe, Missouri and Robert and wife Jina Murrell of Ellsworth, Kansas. 3 daughters Barbara and husband Dave Scheil of Lake Elsinore, California, Sharon and husband Tom Slezak of Fairmont, Nebraska and Julie Dillman of York, Nebraska and Son in Law Larry Ahrens of Farragut, Iowa (spouse of Patsy Jo Ahrens) and 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and sister-in-law Norma Ernst of Reno Nevada and many nieces and nephews.
