A Memorial Service for Lois will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Geneva, Nebraska. A book signing and visitation will be on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. A private Committal of Ashes will be held in the Geneva Public Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Lois Gwendolyn Bernasek, 86, of Geneva, Nebraska went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 25, 2024 at Grand Island Regional Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was born on November 18, 1937 to the late Oscar Harlan Butts and Anna Lorena (Sharpe) Butts at her home on Poke Hollow Road behind Tater Ridge Road in West Union, Ohio. Lois was raised in Greene County, Ohio on a dairy farm and was very active in 4H showing cattle in the county fair. She grew up in a musically talented family where they would enjoy getting together for a “jam session” or two-way into adulthood. Lois graduated from Cederville High School and went to business school in Ohio but then changed interests to become a telephone operator for Ma Belle. She joined the service and did boot camp at Fort Bennington, Georgia. She attended finance school in Indianapolis and was transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. This is where she met Norris Bernasek and married in 1958. They moved to Nebraska to the farm. To this union four children were born. Following their divorce, Lois remained in Geneva. Lois had a variety of skill sets and held several positions from owning a taxi cab business to being a seamstress, a paralegal, and at least 30 years in corrections for the State of Nebraska. She was most recently a dispatcher for the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office until she retired last year. Lois had several hobbies including waterskiing, riding motorcycles, camping, knitting, and woodworking. However, her favorite things in life pertained to her family. She enjoyed all family activities including attending events for the kids, baking at holidays, family road trips, dancing, and vacations. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Lorena Butts; her brothers, Nolan (Dorothy), Samuel (Beverley), and Ed Butts; grandson, Jeffrey Allan Graham; and granddaughters, Brittany and Anastasia Rainey. She is survived by her children, Cindi (Mike) Andreasen of Milligan Nebraska, Kevin (Karen) Bernasek of Pleasanton Nebraska, Michelle (Tera) Lemke of York, Nebraska, Tami (Ken) Vodicka of Geneva, Nebraska; grandchildren, Daniel Graham, Jill (Greg) Kraus, Charolette (Austin) Scott, Allie Bernasek, Sydney (Kale) Bernasek, Tyler (Theresa) Rainey, Trevor (Michelle) Lemke, Tristian Lemke, Blakley and Braxton Stokebrand, Dylan Vodicka, Sarah (Matt) Vodicka, Anna and Madison Vodicka; great grandchildren Boden Graham, Katherine and Kayden Hale, Ryan Kraus, Clara, Milia, and Luka Scott, Bristol and Maverik Luke, Hayden, Brendan, and Link Rainey, Ridge Walker; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
