Marlene S. Walters

Marlene Sue Walters was born on March 1, 1949 in Davenport, Nebraska to Kenneth and Fern (Boo) Walters and she passed away on February 27, 2013 in Harvard, Nebraska at the age of 63 years, 11 months, 26 days. She was the second of two children born in the family. Marlene was raised in rural Shickley and attended Shickley Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1967. After graduation, she attended Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. Marlene was married to Larry Plock of Fairmont, Nebraska and to them two children were born: John and Chris. She was a wonderful mother. She was very involved in all her boy’s and grandkids activities, making sure with her comments that they knew she was present. Marlene so loved her kids, grandkids, and family, and there weren’t very many times that she would miss an activity. She was very family-oriented and she enjoyed her family. Family members particularly remember her smile, her sense of humor, and how she loved being with friends and family. She also loved to camp and fish, as could be evidenced by her many years as a Boy Scout leader. Marlene was always just a phone call away; no matter what time it was, she would be there for her family. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth & Fern Walters; and her grandparents Harold & Mattie Walters and Oscar & Emma Boo. She is survived by her significant other Tom Abrams of Harvard, Nebraska; sons John & Michelle Plock of Shickley, Nebraska and their children Alexandra & Zach Benson of Elm Creek, Nebraska and Samantha and Austin Plock of Shickley, Nebraska, Chris & Kristen Plock and their daughter Kamryn Plock all of Lincoln, Nebraska and by Tom & Kellie Abrams and their daughter Ashtyn, all of Hastings, Nebraska; brother & sister-in-law Elden & Melea Walters of Shickley, Nebraska and their daughter Lacee & Mike Yendra of Holdrege, Nebraska. Funeral services for Marlene were held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shickley United Methodist Church. Pastor Dorothy Aspegren officiated the service. The recorded selections “The Dance,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “Live Like You Were Dying,” and “Amazing Grace” were played for the service. Pallbearers included Jim Marget, Dale Elznic, Scott Davis, Lenny Ackland, Dan Miller, Corey Stengel, Dan Hendrickson, and Jason Brase. Honorary bearers included Alexandra Benson, Zach Benson, Samantha Plock, Austin Plock, Kamryn Plock, Lacee Yendra, Michael Yendra, Annabella Yendra, and Ashtyn Abrams. Interment was held in the Swedish Cemetery, rural Shickley, Nebraska. Memorials are directed to the Cancer Relay For Life. Farmer & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
